YEMEN
VERY IMPORTANT WHEN ADMIRING OTHER CULTURES TO KEEP THINGS IN SOCIAL CONTEXT - YEMEN IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE POOREST COUNTRIES IN THE ARAB WORLD AND HAS BEEN WAR-STRICKEN FOR MANY YEARS NOW. THE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN YEMEN IS ONE OF THE WORST IN THE WORLD. WHERE THERE IS POVERTY THERE IS HUNGER. SO OFC IT’S EASY TO VIEW THESE PHOTOS AND APPRECIATE THE BEAUTY IN THEIR CULTURE BUT YOU KNOW WHAT’S ALSO REALLY EASY AND MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE? SENDING SOME MONEY TO HELP OUT. IF YOU WANT TO TAKE ANY INSPIRATION FROM THESE LOOKS YOU BETTER BE SENDING SOME MONEY TO HELP THE SURVIVAL OF THE CULTURE THAT CREATED THEM!!! (IF YOU CAN, OF COURSE)
I found a Mercy Corps link that seems like a good one -
https://www.mercycorps.org/donate/urgent-families-facing-famine-yemen
None of my 10% charities are currently towards the crisis in Yemen so a direct donation is the best route! They accept paypal so they make it easy!! (Unfortunately donations below $5 are not accepted - if you’d like to order something from me and donate to Yemen instead of one of the causes I have listed, let me know in the order notes and I’ll personally cover the difference).
While browsing through Instagram one day I came across the account of a guy I knew-ish in LA, a very chic man who I loosely associate with large fancy expensive hats and other such things. His name is Sebastian Hull and he had posted on his account a photo of a Yemeni goat herder who gave me heart palpitations. I had to dive deep into google and learn more about Yemeni fashion.
